Luca Marini received his B.Sc. in computer science and engineering from the University of Bologna and his M.Sc. degree in machine learning from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He collaborated with the European Space Agency (ESA) during his master’s thesis to detect marine anomalies using deep semi-supervised learning methods on Sentinel-2 images. His professional experience includes working as an AI researcher for Frontier Development Labs – Earth Systems Lab, and for KTH, contributing to the Divisions of Geoinformatics and RPL (Robotics, Perception, and Learning).
Currently, he is a Ph.D. researcher in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. His research focuses on developing computer vision and deep learning techniques for the onboard processing of Earth observation images. He is particularly interested in the early detection and geolocation of environmental disasters using optical satellite imagery.
